Terms of service
These terms govern your use of PatentQuill at patentquill.com, operated by Zane (“we”, “us”). By creating an account or using the service you agree to them. If you use PatentQuill for a firm or company, you confirm that you may accept these terms on its behalf. Please also read our privacy policy.
1. What PatentQuill is
PatentQuill is a drafting tool. It turns the text you provide into patent drawings, such as method flowcharts and system block diagrams, and checks them against measurable drawing requirements and against the reference numerals in your text.
PatentQuill is not a law firm and does not give legal advice. We do not review claims, assess patentability or represent you before the USPTO or any other office. You are responsible for everything you file, including checking that each drawing is accurate and complete, shows what your application needs to show, uses the right reference numerals and meets the rules that apply to your filing. Passing our automated checks does not guarantee that an office will accept a drawing.
2. Your account
You need an account to generate drawings. Give us an email address you control and keep access to it secure; you are responsible for activity under your account. You must be at least 18. One person or organization should not create multiple accounts to obtain extra free credits.
3. Credits, packs and plans
- One credit generates one drawing. Generating or regenerating a drawing from your text uses a credit; editing a drawing does not. If a generation fails, the credit is returned.
- Accounts that sign in with Google receive 5 free credits once. Accounts created with an email code start with none. Exports from a free account carry a watermark; clean filing sheets require a purchase or an active plan.
- Credit packs are one-time purchases. Pack credits do not expire.
- Plans are subscriptions. Plan credits are added each month while your plan is active. Unused credits stay in your account, including after you cancel. Monthly plans are billed each month; yearly plans are billed once a year in advance.
- Plans renew automatically until cancelled. You can cancel at any time; cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period, and you keep your plan until then.
- Current prices are shown on the pricing page. Prices are in US dollars and may exclude taxes that apply where you live. If we change a plan’s price, we will tell you before your next renewal at the new price.
4. Refunds
- Credit packs. If you have not used any credits from a pack, you can get a full refund within 14 days of purchase.
- Plans. You can get a full refund of your first plan payment within 14 days of that payment, provided you have not used any credits from that billing period.
- Other payments, including renewals and partly used periods, are not refunded, and we do not give prorated refunds.
- To request a refund, email support@patentquill.com from the address on your account. Refunds go back to the original payment method. Credits from a refunded purchase are removed from your account.
This policy does not limit any refund rights you have under the law where you live.
5. Acceptable use
Do not:
- upload content you have no right to use, or use the service to break the law;
- try to access other users’ accounts or data, or get around credit limits, rate limits or security measures;
- interfere with or overload the service, or access it with automated tools other than the features we provide;
- copy, resell or reverse engineer the service, or use it to build a competing product.
We may suspend accounts that break these rules.
6. Your content
You own the text you provide and the drawings generated from it. You give us a limited permission to store, process and display that content only as needed to provide the service to you, including sending text to the AI processing services we use to generate drawings. We do not use your content to train AI models and we do not claim any rights in your inventions. You confirm that you have the right to provide the content you upload.
7. Our service
We own PatentQuill, its software and its design. We may improve, change or discontinue features. If we discontinue the service as a whole, we will give you reasonable notice so you can export your drawings.
8. Disclaimers
The service is provided “as is” and “as available”. To the fullest extent the law allows, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We do not promise that the service will be uninterrupted or error-free, or that any drawing will be accepted by a patent office. Review every drawing before you file it.
9. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential losses, or for lost profits, lost data, lost filing dates or lost rights. Our total liability for any claim relating to the service is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
10. Ending your use
You can stop using PatentQuill at any time and ask us to delete your account. We may suspend or end your access if you seriously or repeatedly break these terms, or if the law requires it. Sections 6, 8, 9 and 11 continue to apply after your access ends.
11. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. Disputes will be handled by the courts of Hong Kong, unless the law where you live gives you the right to bring a claim in your local courts.
12. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. For material changes we will update this page and its effective date and tell account holders by email before the change takes effect. If you keep using the service after that, the new terms apply.
