Privacy policy

PatentQuill is a tool for preparing patent drawings. It is operated by Zane (“we”, “us”). This policy explains what we collect when you use patentquill.com, why, how long we keep it, and the choices you have. Questions: support@patentquill.com.

The short version

  • We never use your text or drawings to train AI models. Your text is sent to outside processing services only to complete your request; they are listed below.
  • Our staff do not look at your project content unless you ask us to for a support request.
  • We do not sell your data and we do not run advertising trackers.
  • Your drawings stay in your account until you delete them or close your account.

What we collect

  • Account details. Your email address, which you use to sign in. If you sign in with Google, we receive your name and email address from Google.
  • Your content. The specification or description text you paste in, the drawings generated from it, and the edits you make to them.
  • Billing records. Your credit balance, how credits were used, and your purchases and plan status. Card details are entered with our payment processor, not with us; we never see or store your full card number.
  • Technical data. A session cookie that keeps you signed in, and standard server logs (such as IP address, browser type and request times) used for security and troubleshooting, and analytics data as described under Analytics. To prevent fraud and abuse of free credits, we process your email address and IP address with our own anti-abuse service. We keep only hashed values, for up to 90 days.

Your browser may also keep a working copy of your current draft on your own device so that you do not lose work between visits. You can clear it at any time through your browser settings.

How we use it

We use this information only to:

  • generate, display, save and export your drawings;
  • run your account, keep track of credits and process payments;
  • prevent fraud and abuse and keep the service secure;
  • answer your support requests and send messages about your account, such as sign-in codes and receipts.

We do not use your information for advertising, and we do not sell or rent it to anyone.

No AI training on your content

We do not use your text, your drawings or your edits to train or improve any AI model. Your content is sent to processing services only to complete your request: to turn your text into a drawing, the text you submit is sent to the AI processing services listed under Service providers.

Confidentiality of unpublished applications

We understand that an unpublished patent application is confidential. Our staff do not view your project content unless you authorize it, for example when you ask us to look into a problem with a specific drawing. Your firm or employer may have its own rules about using online tools for client matters; please follow them.

Service providers

We rely on a small number of providers to run PatentQuill:

  • Cloudflare: hosting, database and storage for your account and drawings;
  • Amazon Web Services: email delivery, for sign-in codes and account messages;
  • Stripe: payment processing;
  • Google: Google sign-in, if you choose it, and Google Analytics;
  • OpenPanel: privacy-focused website analytics;
  • AI processing providers: they receive the text you submit for a drawing, only to generate that drawing. We do not send them your account details or your saved drawings.

Each receives only what it needs to provide its service to us. We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect the rights and safety of our users or of PatentQuill.

Analytics

We use two analytics tools to understand how the site is used and to improve it. Google Analytics, provided by Google, records pages viewed, referring site, device and browser type, and approximate location derived from your IP address. Advertising features, ad personalization and ad-related data sharing are turned off, and in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland Google Analytics runs without analytics cookies by default. We also use a privacy-focused analytics service served from patentquill.com. It does not use cookies; it receives your IP address only to estimate approximate location and to tell visits apart, and does not identify you personally. Analytics never includes the text you paste or your drawings. We do not use analytics data for advertising and we do not sell it.

Cookies

We use one necessary cookie to keep you signed in. Outside the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, Google Analytics also sets analytics cookies (_ga and _ga_<ID>) to count visits; in those regions analytics cookies are off by default. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.

How long we keep data

Your drawings and text stay in your account until you delete them or delete your account. To delete your account and everything in it, email support@patentquill.com from the address on the account. We will delete your account data within 30 days. We keep billing and transaction records for as long as tax and accounting laws require; these do not include your application text or drawings. Server logs are kept for up to 30 days for security purposes.

Security

Connections to PatentQuill are encrypted in transit. You sign in with a one-time email code or with Google; we never store a password. Access to production systems is limited to the people who need it to run the service. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information and will notify you without undue delay if a breach affects your data.

Your rights

You can ask us to give you a copy of your information, correct it, delete it, or export your content. You can also export your drawings yourself at any time from the app. Depending on where you live, you may have further rights, such as objecting to certain processing or complaining to a data protection authority. Send requests to support@patentquill.com; we will respond within 30 days.

International transfers

We and our providers may process your information in countries other than the one you live in, including the United States. Where this happens, we limit what is sent to what each service needs, as described above.

Children

PatentQuill is a professional tool and is not directed to children. You must be at least 18 to use it, and we do not knowingly collect information from children.

Changes to this policy

If we make a material change, we will update this page and its effective date, and tell account holders by email before the change takes effect.
